This from a Drew Marshall interview with Wayne Jacobsen. Wayne said the following in answer to Drew’s question, “Established congregations. Should I go to them?”
I think part of that whole religious obligation thing is what keeps us from real community and relationship. If you enjoy going where you’re going and it helps you walk just go. Should you go to to one of those things on Sunday morning to validate that you are a believer and connected to the family of God? Then I’d say the answer to that is its a nice symbol but you’re wasting your time. That alone isn’t doing you any good and its not doing the family any good.
On the danger of feeding people religious information:
We give them enough of God’s things to inoculate them against the reality of knowing him. We’re immunizing people from the presence of our Father.
